Interested In Joining Us?

Anyone can participate! We expect to have 200 participants on The Big Event. Greek organizations, RSOs, and individual volunteers are all welcome! You can sign up with a group or as an individual. Breakfast and lunch will be provided as well as transportation to and from your service site in Newark.

The Projects:
Participants will take part in park cleanups and community center maintenance with Newark Parks and Recreation, assistance at the Newark Senior Center, and other community projects.

Time Commitment:
The day is scheduled for May 4th and is estimated to go from 10am - 2pm, consisting of breakfast, the kick-off event, service work (split up into project groups), lunch, and the community gathering.

If you can’t help us on the big day, but want to get more involved, become a general member by emailing us, signing up in Student Central, or coming to one of our Speaker Series events (see flyer below). Spring Clean Out Sale

When: Saturday, March 30, 2019
Volunteer Time: 6:30 a.m. – 8 a.m. OR 12  – 1:30 p.m.
Number of Volunteers: As many as possible
Where: George Wilson Community Center, 303 New London Road, Newark, DE 19711 
Volunteer Role: Volunteers will be assisting vendors with set up / break down before and/or after the event.

Spring Community Clean Up

When: April 6
Time: 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Number of Volunteers: As many as possible
Where: Meet at the Municipal Building for assignment, cleanup sites in various locations 
Volunteer Role: Keeping the City of Newark beautiful by removing litter

Newark Parks and Recreation Annual Egg Hunt

Event Prep Dates: April 8 - 12 (Event Set Up, Egg Stuffing) 
Event Date: Saturday, April 13 (Day of Event)
Rain Date: Sunday, April 14, 2 p.m.
Event Prep Time: For the week prior to the Egg Hunt, times can vary to work with volunteer's schedules. Typically we have volunteer blocks of 9 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. and 1 – 5 p.m. (Monday-Friday)
Event Time: 10 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
Event Volunteer Time: 8 a.m. – 12 p.m. Times may be altered closer to the event depending upon set up and preparations.
Event Prep Number of Volunteers: Up to 10 people per day the week prior 
Event Number of Volunteers: 25
Event Prep Location: The George Wilson Center and/or Municipal Building for the week prior 
Event Location: The Carpenter Recreation Area of White Clay Creek State Park 880 New London Rd, Newark DE 
Volunteer Role: Prior to the event, we will need 20,000 eggs stuffed and other preparation. On the day of, volunteers will help with set up, distributing/hiding eggs, break down, assisting children and families with activities, and assisting park staff.

Earth Day Volunteer Day

When: Saturday, April 27
Time: 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.
Number of Volunteers: As many as possible
Where: Meet at the Handloff Park for Volunteer assignment, cleanup / Special Park Maintenance sites in various locations 
Volunteer Role: Making a difference in City of Newark Parks with park clean up, special park maintenance or tree planting. Project will be dependent upon the number of volunteers participating

Newark Memorial Day Parade

When: Sunday, May 19
Time: 1 p.m. – Ceremony on the UD Green, 2 p.m. – Parade on Main Street
Volunteers Time: 12 p.m. – 3 p.m.
Number of Volunteers: Up to 15
Where: University of Delaware Green & Main Street 
Volunteer Role: Volunteers will help with set up, break down, directing parking, assisting & directing parade participants, crowd control and assisting park staff.

Mayor’s Fun Ride 


When: Saturday, June 1
Time: 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Number of Volunteers: 30
Where: Newark Shopping Center, 230 East Main Street, Newark, DE 
Volunteer Role: Volunteers will help with set up, break down, directing parking, course marshals, water stations and assisting park staff.

Where: University of Delaware Bob Carpenter Center Sports Complex
